That’s kind of a tawdry title for this post, but it’s really what we’re asking. Do you think your current car insurance company sucks? Or are you satisfied with how they’ve treated you as a customer?
If you have ever searched for insurance company reviews online, you know opinions cover the entire spectrum from raving satisfaction to intense loathing. Consumers are more inclined to go online to write negative reviews as a way of getting “revenge” or “pay back” for a denied claim or other situation. They aren’t so quick, however, to post positive feedback when something goes their way. This is why it’s important to keep that in mind when reading opinions online.
So, with that said, my personal experiences have been mostly positive when dealing with car insurance companies. I don’t mean from an agent perspective, but rather as a consumer just like you. I’ve had claims (some rather large ones), accidents (both at-fault and not), and have switched companies to take advantage of lower rates.
In the last 15 years, I have had four different car insurance companies. I have insured my vehicles with Farm Bureau Insurance, Allstate, Progressive and Nationwide. I have had claims with all four companies, everything from hail damage to broken windshields to a major interstate pileup that totaled several vehicles including my own.
All-in-all, the companies I have dealt with have handled my claims fairly. Progressive was especially good to work with in a not-at-fault accident when they reimbursed my collision deductible and subrogated another company to have them pay it. In that particular accident, there were also medical payments, liability payments and a subsequent lawsuit that dragged on for over a year. Progressive handled the claim very well but did end up settling the lawsuit, which was without merit. To make a long story short, the lawsuit was baseless, but it would have cost more to fight it than settle it. It’s my opinion that car insurance rates would be about 1/2 what they are if it weren’t for personal injury lawyers. Enough said.
If you have a car insurance company review or rant you’d like to post, feel free to share!
