Are Those Door Dings Covered by Insurance?

There’s nothing more irritating that coming out to your parked vehicle and noticing a new door ding. You work hard for your money to buy a nice vehicle and other people slam their doors into your shiny new car. Maybe it’s just jealousy.

Regardless of the motive, door dings are just part of owning a car. Unless you park at the far back of every parking lot in an attempt to stave off the inevitable, chances are your baby has a few minor blemishes.

So are door dings covered by your insurance policy?  Sure they are if you carry comprehensive or ‘other-than-collision’ coverage. The problem is, your deductible is probably $250 or even $500 or more and you’ll have to pay that out-of-pocket before your insurance company pays a dime.

Is it worth $250 or $500 and a claim history to fix a minor door ding? That’s up to you.  But if you can catch the offending door dinger in the act of denting your ride, you might be able to get them to pay for the damages.
